The National Energy Council (DEN) presented a roadmap for national energy security leading up to 2060. The presentation was delivered by DEN member Unggul Priyanto during a session on the National Energy Policy (KEN) and national energy security at the Hasanuddin University (Unhas) campus in Makassar.

On that occasion, Unggul emphasized that the National Energy Policy (KEN) plays a crucial role in guiding energy management within the country.

“The National Energy Policy (KEN) serves as a fundamental guideline for achieving energy independence and security for Indonesia—one that is equitable, sustainable, and environmentally conscious,” he said in Makassar, as quoted by Antara on Tuesday (September 16, 2026).

Unggul explained that KEN does not merely direct energy governance; it also acts as a primary guide for formulating the National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN). Furthermore, the policy supports the drafting of strategic plans for relevant ministries and agencies, covering sectors such as electricity, oil, natural gas, coal, and new and renewable energy (EBT).

“The ultimate goal of this policy is to support Green Economy development and fulfill Indonesia’s commitment to decarbonizing the energy sector in order to achieve national climate resilience,” he stated.

Unggul outlined that the core of the policy rests on the definition of energy security itself. Energy availability must be guaranteed at prices that remain affordable for the public in the long term, without neglecting environmental protection.

“This concept emphasizes a balance between economic, social, and ecological aspects, where the energy transition must not come at the expense of public affordability or environmental sustainability,” he said.
