Soon to Go Public, VKTR Becomes a Pioneer Electric Buses in Indonesia

PT VKTR Teknologi Mobilitas Tbk. (VKTR) – or what could be called ‘Vector’ is preparing to hold an Initial Public Offering (IPO) in the near future. This company, which focuses on developing the electric vehicle ecosystem in the heavy mobility segment, will carry out an initial offering on 26-31 May 2023 before listing its shares on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI). Thus, VKTR will become the first public company in Indonesia to be involved in the electric vehicle industry starting from the heavy vehicle segment. VKTR is a subsidiary of PT Bakrie & Brothers Tbk (BNBR), the flag carrier company of the Bakrie Group.

The President Commissioner of VKTR who is also the President Director of BNBR, Anindya Novyan Bakrie, emphasized that the business prospects for developing the electric vehicle ecosystem are quite large. This is supported by the massive changes in the global vehicle industry which is undergoing a transition towards clean and environmentally friendly energy. In line with this, through Presidential Decree Number 55 of 2019, Indonesia is committed to accelerating the formation of a Battery-Based Electric Motor Vehicle (KBLBB) ecosystem for road transportation in Indonesia.

“VKTR will focus on developing the KBLBB business in the commercial vehicle segment such as buses and trucks. “Based on data, the need for buses in the city of Jakarta alone will reach more than 10,000 units by 2030. If you calculate the potential throughout Indonesia, the figure of 10,000 units could be 20 times greater,” said Anindya in an official press release, in Jakarta, Friday. (26/05/2023).

Meanwhile, VKTR President Director Gilarsi W. Setijono said, to date, TransJakarta operates 52 electric buses under the BYD brand, all of which were obtained from the Company. In one year, our 30 buses that have been in operation have carried almost 10 million passengers, traveled 2.8 million KM, reduced more than 3,100 tons of CO2 emissions, and helped save TransJakarta operational costs by 85% every day. This is one of the results of the Company’s efforts to continue to strengthen and develop strategic partnerships with the largest electric vehicle industry player in the world, BYD Auto. “Currently we are bringing in K-9 type buses in CBU (completely built-up) directly from the BYD factory in Shenzhen, China. In the next stage, we are starting to pioneer the process of building assembly facilities in Indonesia with local assembly company partners who are experienced in their fields,” Gilarsi said.

Gilarsi added, apart from electric buses, the Company is also expanding into the EV Truck business. The potential of the truck market in Indonesia continues to grow. “Our data shows that by 2023 the EV truck market is expected to exceed 111,000 units per year. The growth trend in the mining, palm oil and other sectors continues to strengthen compared to 2022. Growth indicators can also be seen in the logistics sector. “With many sectors starting to grow, it is estimated that sales of commercial vehicles will be in line,” said Gilarsi.

Currently, VKTR has started using KBLBB facilities for bus units in Tri Sakti, Central Java, with an assembly capacity of 500 units/year. “We are committed to developing this facility into a reliable manufacturing line for KBLBB buses and trucks, with capacity increasing to more than 3,000 units per year. “In this way, it is hoped that the Company will be able to fulfill the TKDN (Domestic Content Level) provisions set by the government, and become a national product that we can all be proud of,” said Gilarsi again.

VKTR’s subsidiary company, PT Bakrie Autoparts (BA), is known to be one of the leading automotive spare parts manufacturers in Indonesia today and has the ability to produce vehicle spare parts which has been active for more than 47 years in Indonesia, especially for heavy vehicles such as buses and trucks. on a large scale. According to Gilarsi, from the existing market niche, the Company, through Bakrie Autoparts, also has the potential to start developing metal-alloy spare parts and accessory products that are compatible with EV needs in the future. “To expand its business scope, currently the Company, through BA, has also collaborated with PT Dharma Controlcable Indonesia. “We are confident that in the future there will be many potential business partners who will be able to support VKTR in improving and developing the performance of our business lines,” he explained.
