Pertamina – Bakrie Group Collaboration, President Jokowi Groundbreaking Nusantara Sustainability Hub
PT Pertamina (Persero) and Bakrie Group are working together to build the Nusantara Sustainability Hub in the capital city of the archipelago (IKN). Through a strategic partnership between the Bakrie Group and Pertamina, the Nusantara Sustainability Hub will accommodate various research to be carried out by the International Institute of Sustainability Indonesia (IISI), for the development of world-class sustainable energy research centers and education facilities.
The construction of the Nusantara Sustainability Hub began with the laying of the first stone (groundbreaking), which was symbolically carried out by President Joko Widodo, in the Nusantara Capital region, Wednesday 5 June 2024. This activity was attended by Plt. Head of the Nusantara Capital Authority Basuki Hadimuljono, President Director of Pertamina Nicke Widyawati, CEO of Bakrie & Brothers Anindya Bakrie, President Director of Pertamina’s subsidiary PT Patra Jasa Ray S.M Daulay, President Director of the Bakrie Center Foundation Jimmy Gani, as well as other strategic partners.
President Joko Widodo expressed his full support for partnerships with various international institutions that focus on sustainability, as an effort to open the government in welcoming collaboration in the Indonesian capital. The President’s presence is still in connection with the signing of the Joint Statement of Collaboration which was signed at Stanford University regarding plans for research collaboration in the field of research in Indonesia’s sustainability sector, witnessed in the presence of President Joko Widodo in November 2023.
“Investment in IKN is a program for the future because what is called economic transformation, green economy, green energy is what we will develop here. I really appreciate and appreciate the construction of the Nusantara Sustainability Hub through the collaboration of Pertamina, Bakrie and other companies. “What will be interesting in the future is that other companies, other universities, can work together here so that it becomes a showcase for our country’s research and the development of the green economy in our country,” said President Joko Widodo in his speech at the Ground Breaking Nusantara Sustainability Hub at IKN, Wednesday, June 5, 2024.
This collaboration between Pertamina and the Bakrie Group includes the development of shared-hub infrastructure in the strategic area of Edutown IKN, as well as various research covering sustainability aspects, such as artificial intelligence-based critical mineral research to support the transformation of sustainable resource exploration. These two aspects show that the collaboration between Pertamina and the Bakrie Group always prioritizes commitment to efforts to realize sustainable development and resource management.
In this case, Pertamina also involved its portfolio subsidiary, PT Patra Jasa, which played a role in developing the Nusantara Sustainability Hub.
Nicke Widyawati revealed that Pertamina, through Patra Jasa, will build the Nusantara Sustainability Hub in stages, to develop sustainability aspects in IKN, as well as present an international standard research and innovation center in the field of sustainability and low carbon technology.
“We hope that the Nusantara Sustainability Hub can become a forum for various initiatives, brainstorming and sustainable development involving various parties. In the end, Pertamina strives to create environmentally friendly energy that will be utilized optimally in IKN. “To support this plan, Pertamina appreciates the Archipelago Capital Authority and the Bakrie Group for initiating synergistic collaboration with Pertamina,” added Nicke.
Anindya Bakrie, as CEO of Bakrie & Brothers said that with Indonesia’s partnership with the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability, IISI will be the forerunner of the first sustainability school in Indonesia and play an important role in promoting Nusantara IKN as a Green Silicon Valley in Southeast Asia. It is also hoped that IISI and the Nusantara Sustainability Hub will be part of Indonesia’s transformation journey not only from a physical perspective, but also a mindset, which can become a milestone for a new civilization in Indonesia, one that is prosperous, just and sustainable. By connecting this R&D center to the innovation and sustainability ecosystem, IISI will encourage the development of critical mineral research and Artificial Intelligence-based exploration technology through collaboration with Stanford Mineral-X, and harness the abundant potential of renewable energy by prioritizing sustainability principles.
“By exploring Indonesia’s partnership with the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability, we will not only build an institute, but we will also build an ecosystem that supports innovation, by leveraging the power of strong public-private partnerships through collaboration between the Bakrie Group and other business groups, with Pertamina and “The Archipelago Capital Authority is to realize the vision of a Golden Indonesia 2045,” explained Anindya Bakrie. The synergy between Pertamina and the Bakrie Group has been established since the cooperation agreement (MoU) between the two parties last March. This facility is expected to become a research center that focuses on Indonesia’s strengths in decarbonization, including the potential for renewable energy, critical minerals and biodiversity.
