PT Trans Jakarta began to be more aggressive and open to introduce electric bus units in Jakarta. Two electric bus units have even been displayed at the Busworld South East Asia 2019 exhibition arena, which will be held in Kemayoran, Jakarta, from Wednesday to Friday. The electric bus distributors in Jakarta enthusiastically welcomed the steps of the Jakarta transportation service provider company.
The CEO of PT Bakrie Autoparts, one of the electric bus distributor companies in Indonesia, Dino A Ryandi agreed with the CEO of PT Trans Jakarta, Agung Wicaksono who said that the exhibition of two electric bus concepts at the exhibition was actually to strengthen public awareness. “It is indeed time for us to show that there are electric buses, and that electric buses in the future are a necessity in the national transportation system, especially in big cities,” Dino told reporters in Jakarta on Wednesday (3/20) at the exhibition site ,
Previously, CEO PT Trans Jakarta, Agung Wicaksono told reporters that the study for electric bus services in DKI Jakarta had been carried out by the Provincial Government and supported by the UN (UN) with the UN Environment Program. “From there we are asked to implement. We do provide two different bus suppliers but we are also open to (use) everything. The important thing is fulfilling the requirements of Transjakarta. Most importantly, he must match Transjakarta operations. It will be tested there,” said Agung.
Dino said, in collaboration with a leading electric bus manufacturer from China, BYD Auto Co.Ltd, PT Bakrie & Brothers Tbk (BNBR) through PT Bakrie Autoparts as its business unit, began entering the electric bus business in 2018. While awaiting the issuance of more definite government regulations regarding electric vehicles, BNBR has begun to explore the possibility of cooperation with a number of local governments and major cities in Indonesia. “We are quite optimistic, because we do not just sell buses, but also offer transportation systems for cities in Indonesia,” Dino said.
Ready for Cooperation with Trans Jakarta
According to him, his company is very open to establishing partnerships with any institution, including PT Transportasi Jakarta. “Bakrie is committed and ready to follow all procedures and rules that apply to become a strategic partner of PT Transportasi Jakarta,” he said.
In addition, BNBR has also approached a number of local governments such as the Central Java Provincial Government, Surabaya City Government, and Bali Provincial Government.
Last October 2018 in Bali, two units of electric buses imported directly from China have been tested, and at the same time functioned as a shuttle bus during the International Monetary Fund & World Bank meeting last year. “Many people are interested and pay special attention,” he said.
As previously reported, PT Bakrie & Brothers Tbk (“BNBR” or “Company”) and BYD Auto Co.Ltd. together have agreed on 4 stages of development and production of electric buses in the next 4 years. The first stage is importation and product performance. BNBR will start importing 20 units for the needs of technology demonstrations to various potential customers, from the end of 2018 until the end of 2019.
The second stage is market penetration. Beginning in 2019 Bakrie began to penetrate the market, especially for buses with gross vehicle weight (GVW) under 24 tons. The third stage is conducting initial commercialization and manufacturing. In mid-2019 BNBR will start entering the initial commercialization stage. In early 2020 the Company began to enter the manufacturing stage by producing a number of 100-200 units with a target level of domestic content (TKDN) of 40%.
The fourth stage: full commercialization. Then in mid 2020 the Company will begin full commercialization. And at the beginning of 2022 the Company targets to start producing more than 300 units with a domestic content level (TKDN) of 55%.
