The National Energy Council (DEN) projects that peak carbon emissions in Indonesia will occur in 2035. Therefore, the use of fossil energy sources needs to be optimized from now on.
Secretary General of the National Energy Council (DEN) Djoko Siswanto reminded that the oil production target of 1 million barrels per day (bpd) should not shift from what was previously set in 2030 to 2032. Because in several scenarios prepared, the government is targeting the use of New Renewable Energy (EBT). ) by 2060 will reach 70%.
“While 70% of us want EBT, more people will invest in new, renewable energy. Even though we need it now. Until Indonesia becomes golden in 2045. Because the peak of emissions is estimated to be 2035,” said Djoko on CNBC’s Energy Corner. Indonesia, Tuesday (11/6/2024).
According to Djoko, regarding the peak emissions, the government has included this in updating government regulations on international policy. This is contained in the draft Government Regulation (RPP) National Energy Policy (RPP KEN).
“Now we just have to prepare the president’s letter to the DPR for approval. Yes, it is in the process, on the way. So we will put it in the RPP KEN, that’s how it is,” he said.
Djoko said that when Indonesia is golden in 2045, Indonesia will have started to fully use EBT. The use of fossil energy will be drastically reduced. “Whether it’s coal, crude oil or gas. As a transition, we will continue to increase it. Later after 2035 it will start to decline. Well, hopefully this will also be approved by parliament,” he said.
