Lithium is the main raw material for making electric vehicle batteries. This material is resistant to storing energy so that electric vehicles can travel the desired distance.
However, many electric vehicle manufacturers choose to use lithium ferro phosphate (LFP) batteries. This was acknowledged by the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko Marves).
However, said Luhut, this type of battery has a character that is easily affected by extreme weather. “LFP is indeed important, even though it actually affects extreme cold and extreme hot weather. However, manufacturers still see this battery as the best choice at the moment,” said Luhut at the inauguration of a lithium battery anode material factory in the Special Economic Zone (KEK) in Kendal , Central Java, as quoted from the Presidential Secretariat YouTube channel.
Responding to this, Luhut said that Indonesia would soon have an LFP battery factory. However, he did not explain in detail about the plan. “With this battery anode factory, the Indonesian lithium battery industry ecosystem will be more complete and in line with the tasks that the President has given us. We are not only developing lithium batteries made from nickel cathodes, but also LFP cathodes. And, an LFP factory is being built in Indonesia. he said.
