Jakarta – BYD launched an electric double-decker bus in London, England. Carrying the concept of an urban bus, this BYD electric double-decker bus is equipped with a 532 kWh battery and is claimed to be able to cover a distance of up to 640 km. This distance is more or less the same as the distance from Jakarta to Magetan.

Quoted on the Carnewschina page, the specifications for the BYD electric double-decker bus are believed to be suitable for use in London, where large buses there can cover distances between 160 km and 321 km.

This BYD electric double-decker bus is claimed to be efficient in energy consumption with a record of 1.4 km per kWh using a battery capacity of 457 kWh. The battery is mounted in the chassis which is said to provide an 8% weight reduction, increase range and provide more space for passengers.

Go-Ahead Group, which operates buses on behalf of Transport for London (TfL), is claimed to be close to ordering 100 BYD electric double-decker buses. The price of each bus is £400,000 (Rp. 8.1 billion).

This double-decker bus called BYD BD11 will be produced in China. However, BYD emphasizes that 34% of the components used in the BD11 are sourced from materials in Europe.

The BD11 is 10.9 meters long with a wheelbase of 5.44 meters. Meanwhile, the width is 2.55 meters and the height is 4.3 meters. Depending on the configuration, the bus can carry up to 90 passengers.

The bus is powered by two 150 kW wheel motors which help increase cabin space and provide a turning radius of 8.0 meters. Charging can be done via the optional 500 kW pantograph (overhead) or via the standard charging port. The bus can use more than one charger at a time to increase charging speed. The pantograph charger can charge the bus from 0-100% in 2 hours.
