Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto said Indonesia’s economic growth was still showing positive growth amid the coronavirus pandemic (covid-19).

He conveyed this in reference to the April 2020 economic growth projection data made by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Referring to this data, Airlangga said that Indonesia’s economic growth in April 2020 was 0.5 percent. Together with Indonesia, countries that showed a positive rate of economic growth were China 1.2 percent and India 1.9 percent in the same month.

“So if we look here, the projection from the IMF shows that in 2020 global economic growth is minus three percent,” he said in a virtual discussion entitled ‘New Normal: Compliance and Collaboration for Indonesia’s Economic Recovery’, Thursday, June 4, 2020.

“Then for developed countries minus 6.1 percent, emerging countries minus one percent, America minus 5.9 percent and only three countries with positive growth, namely China 1.2 percent, India 1.9 percent, and Indonesia 0.5 percent. “He continued.

The general chairman of the DPP Golkar Party said that countries experiencing minus economic growth are entering a recession. He said this was the impact of the policies of each country in dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic.

There are those who completely stop state activities, including their economic activities. And there are also those who continue to carry out economic activities but by implementing strict health protocols.

“And those who still get positive are those who take different policies, namely protecting the health sector and also for other sectors,” said Airlangga.
